12 reasons to plan your wedding in just 12 months!

Why wait to say 'I do'?

Although the idea of planning a wedding in a year, or less, may seem completely bonkers – it can be done and is perhaps more common than you think! There has certainly been a recent trend for shorter engagements, Megan Markle and Prince Harry for example, who were married after 7 and a half months. They did, of course, have a budget fit for a future king and queen, but planning a wedding within a shorter time frame does not mean breaking the bank.

Here are our 12 reasons to plan your wedding in 12 months…

1) IT NEEDN’T TAKE OVER YOUR LIFE

The longer you have to plan a wedding, the greater the risk of becoming completely overwhelmed as you spend hours poring over Pinterest boards, scouring Instagram and changing your mind countless times. It doesn’t have to be this way!

2) IT ENCOURAGES YOU TO BE MORE DECISIVE

You’ll need to be more focused as there’s no time (or need!) to agonize over every little detail. It can be a great exercise in decision making for you and your partner. Your chosen venue will be able to point you in the direction of local suppliers and offer you advice.

3) THE AVERAGE ENGAGEMENT IS ACTUALLY ONLY 13 MONTHS

Even though 12 months may not seem like a long time to plan a wedding, it is in fact only one month less than the UK average. Planning a wedding in just a year is totally do-able and can even be a huge money-saver.

4) AVOID EXPERIENCING ‘WEDDING BURNOUT’

When planning a wedding, you find yourself stressing over everything from big aspects of your day to the minutest of details. It can be so stressful that you reach a ‘wedding burnout’ where everything grinds to a halt. The very idea of making another choice or phone call seems unbearable.

5) YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO BAG YOURSELF AN AMAZING DEAL

If you are willing to get married within the year, you may be able to find yourself an incredible deal. Venues with available dates for the following year might have offers available and there may be opportunity to negotiate with other suppliers too.

6) YOU’RE NOT A PLANNER

If you’re already dreading the organisational part of your wedding and planning really isn’t your cup of tea, there’s no need to drag it out. Reduced planning time and frequent deadlines are a great way to keep focused. Why not attend a wedding fayre or an open evening? You can often walk in with nothing booked and walk out with a cake, a DJ, a band and a hairstylist!

7) KEEP MORE OF A BUZZ AROUND YOUR BIG DAY!

With less time between your guests receiving their save-the-date and you saying your vows, so you can build a real air of excitement around your upcoming ceremony.

8) YOU KNOW MORE THAN YOU THINK YOU DO

Some people claim to have been dreaming of their wedding day since they were little. While that may not be true for you, you’ll be amazed at how much you’ve picked up from other weddings and events you’ve attended. Or even from Instagram/Pinterest – you’ll have a clearer idea of your tastes than you think. Trust your instincts!

9) YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR VENUE WILL LOOK LIKE THIS TIME NEXT YEAR

If you book a venue for this time the following year, you will have a clear idea of exactly how it will look for your special day. If you go along for a viewing, you’ll be able to see how the gardens look or how your venue gets decorated for Christmas which can provide inspiration for your colour palette and styling on the day.

10) YOU’LL BE ABLE TO PREVENT MAJOR POST-WEDDING BLUES

If you spend over a year or two planning your event, having it consume your time, thoughts and conversations, you’re likely to feel a little deflated once it’s over and at a loss as to what to do with your newfound spare time. Shorter planning time means you can restore order sooner to your normal work/life balance (which doesn’t get as disrupted in the first place!)

11) YOUR GUEST LIST WILL STAY THE SAME

If it’s been over a year since your partner popped the question, you might well have made new friends who simply have to be part of your special day, or have fallen out with old ones. The beauty of a shorter engagement is that won’t need to keep re-writing your guest list.

12) YOU’LL BE MARRIED SOONER!

Have you been daydreaming about saying ‘I do’ ever since the moment you said ‘yes’? Then why wait to enter into matrimonial bliss and embark on amazing adventures as newlyweds…starting with your honeymoon!

A shorter engagement is not for everyone for a number of reasons, be they financial or personal, but we’re here to assure you that it CAN be done!
