A home built for retreat

Tucked away in the rolling Lancashire countryside, West Tower has stood proudly for almost 150 years. Edgar Musgrove, a prosperous Liverpool cotton broker, built the house around 1875 as a peaceful escape from city life.

At the time, Liverpool was the beating heart of Britain’s cotton industry. Ships arrived daily at the docks, their cargo travelling north to Lancashire’s textile mills before returning to the city for export around the world. For merchants like Musgrove, life was fast-paced and ambitious. West Tower, with its sweeping views and calm setting, became a sanctuary – a place to pause and enjoy the quiet of the countryside.

From family home to wedding house

Over the years, the house changed hands but kept its grace and charm. It later became a boutique hotel and restaurant, welcoming guests who loved its warmth and character. In 2008, West Tower began a new chapter when Paul Bolton became its owner. Working alongside his wife Laura, who reimagined every interior, Paul transformed the house into the exclusive-use wedding venue it is today.

Evolving with care

The restaurant closed in 2010 so the team could focus entirely on weddings and private events. In 2015, General Manager Stephanie Beqo joined and led a period of transformation, helping West Tower earn several prestigious awards.

The estate has continued to grow. The Stables, completed in 2019, introduced new bedrooms and the bright, spacious Cristal Suite. In 2023, The Lodge opened its doors, adding another dressing space and further accommodation. Each development blends modern comfort with timeless character, continuing the story of this much-loved house.

From its 19th-century beginnings to the celebrations it hosts today, West Tower remains a true countryside escape – a place built for joy, connection and unforgettable moments.
