Whilst summer months can be unpredictable and winter is predictably chilly, the glorious months of autumn fall somewhere in between. With golden light and the boldest of colours, autumn is a season where everyone can find something to love.

If you are thinking about an autumn wedding at West Tower, here are 10 reasons to put the season at the top of your list.

The colours are amazing at an autumn wedding

It goes without saying that autumnal colours are a major plus at this time of year. Burgundy, orange and rich browns all echo the landscape and add warmth to your day. With elegant neutral décor throughout our Ballroom, West Tower works beautifully with any autumn palette. Take a look at our wedding gallery to see how couples have made the most of those seasonal tones.

The backdrop

As well as your styling inside, the natural backdrop outdoors is just as important. West Tower’s colourful trees and woodland walks across our gardens and terrace give you so many options for memorable photos and quiet moments together.

Atmospheric lighting

As the clocks go back in autumn, you have the option of marrying in the soft afternoon light or leaning into the longer evenings. An earlier ceremony lets you enjoy golden hour outside, followed by a cosy, candlelit reception once the sun goes down.

Sparklers on the terrace, blankets for guests and an indoor space that glows at night all add to the atmosphere. Once the evening starts, you can be sure your guests will head straight for the dancefloor.

The dress

Choosing your dress is one of the most exciting parts of wedding planning and autumn opens up extra options. You can consider sleeves, a faux fur bolero or warmer tones in your gown that you might not choose in high summer.

The same goes for your wedding party. Think rich colours for bridesmaids, such as burgundy or burnt orange, and black tie or darker suits for the gents. You can even bring those deeper shades into your own look with a bolder lip or smokier eye.

Guest availability

The chances of guests being away on holiday are much lower in autumn. For those travelling from further afield, it can also be a more affordable time of year to book flights and hotels.

At West Tower we can accommodate up to 145 guests for your wedding breakfast, so there is plenty of room for everyone. With 27 guest rooms on site, the party does not have to stop at midnight. As an exclusive use venue, the house is yours alone, which means no sharing spaces or bedrooms with another wedding.

Bold flowers at an autumn wedding

Autumn is a fantastic season for florals. You can create stunning bouquets and centrepieces with roses, dahlias, sunflowers and seasonal foliage. Thistles, berries, grasses and copper toned leaves all add texture.

Coloured ribbons can pull your whole look together and a trailing, romantic bouquet suits the season perfectly. Your florist will be able to suggest flowers that work with your palette and the time of year.

The build up

No matter when you get married, you will enjoy the build up, but autumn has a few bonuses. The lead in is summer, which gives you plenty of options for hen and stag celebrations in lighter evenings. You can also take advantage of late summer and early autumn sales to pick up flip flops for the dancefloor, outfits for your bridal party or thank you gifts.

It is not peak season

One of the clearest benefits of an autumn wedding is that it usually falls outside peak summer dates. That often means more choice of dates at your venue and more flexibility with suppliers. Prices at West Tower vary throughout the year, and autumn dates are amongst the most competitive.

It is worth speaking to your key suppliers too, as many have more availability in autumn.

DIY décor at an autumn wedding

Autumn lends itself to DIY wedding décor. Spray painted pumpkins and pinecones, log slices for centrepieces and leaves down the aisle all look beautiful against the neutral backdrop of the house. Warm, glowing candlelight as the evening draws in adds the final touch.

Our team at West Tower are always happy to help with set up on the day so you can relax and enjoy your morning.

Seasonal trends

There are plenty of seasonal food and drink ideas that feel just right for an autumn wedding. Caramel apples as favours, warm apple or spiced drinks on arrival and decorated pumpkins for centrepieces all work well.

A hearty hog roast in the evening, an autumn firework display and a menu built around your favourite comfort foods can make your day feel even more personal. For more inspiration, take a look at our food and drink page and remember that our chefs can tailor dishes to your tastes.
